I love the weekly classes, always come away feeling energised but calm and sleep so well after. Last weekend I attended the mini retreat doing 2 yoga sessions including yoga nidra followed by afternoon tea. It was fabulous, made more special by the fact the kay our teacher made everything herself. Can’t wait for the next event thank you 🙏🏻 March 2024

I attend the Gnosall group on Tuesday evenings but this week also attended Yoga with afternoon tea in Stafford. What a lovely way to spend Saturday afternoon, thank you Kay. I even managed a little sleep during the Nidra Yoga but woke myself up snoring 😴. The head massage was lovely too and the food delicious 😋 xx

When I do my yoga questionnaires the top reasons for coming to yoga are:

To relieve stress and anxiety

Increase flexibility

Increase strength

They came to the right place because CSV Yoga does all this and more.

How It Helps the Mind and Body

Many yoga benefits are physical, ranging from increased strength and flexibility to lower blood pressure. Plus, a regular yoga practice provides a variety of mental health benefits, such as stress relief and improved well-being, whilst helping promote relaxation and sleeping better too: plus if you want to delve deeper, crease your awareness of spirituality at the same time.

Certain poses can be done just about anywhere, and a yoga session can go for hours or minutes depending on your schedule. Enjoy the many benefits of yoga by engaging in this practice in a way that fits your lifestyle best.

Yoga derives its name form the word “yoke”, which means to bring together and it does just that: bringing together the mind, body and soul.  Whether you use if for a spiritual transformation, stress or physical well0being, yoga’s benefits are numerous.

The word "yoga" means unity, and in CSV style, we aim to find a connection with nature, and a holistic flow of health and wellness, strength and creative expression on all levels CSV Asanas and Core Philosophies bring both the movement and thought of classical yogis into today's world (and bodies) in a fresh and applicable way. These principles can be used to enhance your already existing yoga practice or done as a straight CSV Yoga style.

So What Is Yoga?

The practice of yoga involves stretching the body and forming different poses while keeping your breath slow and controlled. This helps the body become both relaxed and energised at the same time.

Dating back over 5,000 years, yoga is considered by many to be the oldest defined practice of self-development. The methods of classical yoga include ethical disciplines, physical postures, breathing control, and meditation.

While it was first practiced in India, yoga has now become popular all over the world. Many companies understand the benefits of yoga in the workplace, recognising that relaxed workers are healthier and more creative.

There are various styles of yoga, some moving through poses more quickly (almost like an aerobic workout) and others that focus on relaxing slowly and deeply into each pose. Some have a more spiritual angle while others are used purely as a form of exercise: take from it what you feel YOU need.

Zest Yoga Teach CSV Yoga

So What is CSV Yoga?

Core Strength Vinyasa Yoga® (CSV Yoga®) is a modern approach on traditional yoga created by Sadie Nardini. Core Strength: We focus on cues and ordering that harness the Ground Reaction Force and move it through the chain of the Deep Core Line (DCL). This moves your body back into balance: releasing the superficial (outer myofascial lines from overworking in ways they were not designed, and activating the DCL in the way it is meant to work--as the primary mover of your body!). We teach from the ground up and the inside out and use the Four Foundations to achieve this in any pose. This style will help and guide you to seek inwards to find your own core strength on a deeper and philosophical level as well to become the rockstar of their own life both on and off the mat. Alignment in CSV Yoga® is done mainly in the transitions - how you enter into and from every "main pose". These principals are based on contemporary discoveries in anatomy and biomechanics. Vinyasa (Flow): CSV yoga incorporates many aspects from traditional yoga, including sequencing blueprints and many traditional asanas, in a strong flow where your own flow of physical healing (blood flow, lymph flow, nervous system flow, breath, cleansing), as well as the flow of fierceness, compassion, joy, uniqueness and more can arise.

Yoga Benefits for the Mind and Body

The benefits of practicing yoga are numerous, promoting health in both the mind and body. Some of the most-recognized yoga benefits include:

  • Balances the nervous system

  • Improvement of many medical conditions

  • Allergy and asthma symptom relief

  • Lowers blood pressure

Yoga’s benefits are so numerous, it gives a high payoff for the amount of effort involved.

Yoga for Stress Relief

A little yoga in the morning, at night, or even during a lunch break can reduce stress. There are multiple ways that yoga works to lower stress levels. Studies show that yoga targets stress by lifting mood, allowing for increased mindfulness, and increasing self-compassion.

By improving mood, allowing us to focus on the present moment, and encouraging us to give ourselves a break, yoga is an effective stress reliever. Many popular techniques used to reduce stress are derived from yoga, such as:

  • Controlled breathing

  • Meditation

  • Physical movement

  • Mental imagery

  • Stretching

Yoga combines several techniques used for stress reduction, so it provides the combined benefits of breathing exercises, stretching exercises, fitness programs, meditation practice, and guided imagery in one technique.

For those with physical limitations that may prevent a yoga practice, simple breathing exercises, meditation, or guided imagery might be a preferable option and provide similar benefits.

At Zest Yoga we teach chair yoga, yin yoga, yoga Nidra, pregnancy yoga and restorative yoga, all of which provide relaxation and movement but are not physically challenging.

How to Start Enjoying the Benefits of Yoga

You'll see more benefits if you practice yoga regularly, so choose a time each day to get on your mat. For people with certain physical limitations, chair yoga can be a good option. Some people feel self-conscious doing some of the poses. This is normal. Over time, your confidence will increase.

If you want to enjoy yoga benefits it is the most beneficial to practice with a group, if you cannot commit to a class every week, Zest yoga do an online class or combined online and in the studio for the weeks you can’t make it in person.

If you can, try taking a class in person. Yoga classes can be wonderful for beginners. You are surrounded by people of all levels of expertise and ability, and you will have someone talking you through the process and helping you to learn the correct form.

A Word from Kay

The list of yoga benefits is long. One of the most notable is using yoga for stress relief. That said, this practice isn't for everyone. So, if the physical practice isn't possible or enjoyable for you, you may want to consider other options for boosting your mental and physical health.

That are many mental health strategies focused on self-improvement and many options for reducing stress. Find what works for your mind and body and do that.
